Can playing Increases a Kids IQ?

I saw this one clippings at a public library about how playing can increase your kids IQ. It may be child's play but toys have been proven to make children more intelligent. Playing toys boosts the mental development even of severely malnourished pre-school children.

Emaciated kids in Bangladesh improved by up to nine points in the IQ scores just by participating in play programs. It was also found that more than 200 million of the world's poorest children were underfed and under-stimulated. Eighty nine million of these children lived in India, Nigeria, China, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Pakistan.

It was concluded that the simple intervention at the lowest level by government and aid agencies to change attitudes and encourage pre-school play at home, as well as basic nutrition, could have a major effect.

  1. Yes, I agree with this post. Playing, especially with educational toys, increases the intelligent quotient of children who by nature are very inquisitive and curious. Their quests for answers to some questions nagging their minds prod them to think and reason out. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.

  2. Agreed! Playing definitely increases IQ. According to Mama, when I was little, she used to buy all these educational books & blocks and let me build and play.

And during my pre-schoolers days at the kindergarden, we will play and learn at the same time. (Love those days! :-) ).

Looking back... I guess all those playings and learning has taken effect now. I am in Primary Three now and I am confident that I can excel very well this year too. :-)
