Tips for Caring your child's teeth

Heres a nice article I found from a magazine, its about how to care for your child's teeth.

  • Do not give your infant or small child a bottle of milk, formula, juice or any product that contains sugar when putting them to bed. The sugar causes tooth decay.
  • Encourage your baby to start drinking from a cup around 9 months or shortly thereafter.
  • Clean your child's teeth with a gauze pad or soft cloth when they first surface. Once they break through, use a soft children toothbrush with water only.
  • Encourage your child to stop sucking their thumb or fingers. See your dentist if you're unsuccessful.
  • Around 1-2 years of age a dot of toothpaste may be used on the child's toothbrush. Encourage your child not to swallow the toothpaste and rinse well with water.
  • By age 3 or 4, children should be able to brush their won teeth. You should check your children teeth to ensure proper brushing.
  • Have your child brush their teeth twice a day.
  • Gently floss between your child's teeth until they learn the proper technique.
  • Schedule regular dental checkup for your child as early as 2 years of age. (Make sure your dentist and hygienist work well with children).
  • Be an example, brush and floss regularly and maintain regular dental appointments.

Breast Myth

I have a friend who have just given birth to a healthy baby girl. and she would always tell me that every morning she would always drink plenty of milk so that she will produce more milk for her baby. We'll im kinda not sure of what she's telling me is true, so i did a research at the lib, and found a clippings about common myth about breastfeeding and saw the answer their, so i inform my friend so that she would know that what shes doing is not true. Here are 6 common breast myth i found on the clippings.

MYTH 1 Some women fail to produce sufficient milk.
FALSE: Most women do have enough milk supply. If a baby fails to gain(or even loses) weight, this is more likely the result of the baby not latching properly onto the breast or not feeding often enough. It is common for newborn to feed eight to 12 times in 24 hours.

MYTH 2 A mother must drink milk to make milk.
FALSE: A healthy diet of vegetables, fruits, grains and proteins is all that a mother needs to provide the proper nutrients to produce milk. Calcium can be obtained from a variety of nondairy foods such as dark green vegetables, seeds, nuts and fish. No other mammal drinks milk to make milk.

MYTH 3 Mothers who have had cosmetic breast surgery cannot breastfeed a baby.
FALSE: Many women who have had breast augmentation or reduction have gone on to breastfeed. It is important that women consider the issue of breastfeeding before going under the knife, as some procedures reposition the nipple and areola. In these cases, breastfeeding may have to be partial rather than exclusive.

MYTH 4 Mothers who breastfeed cannot consume alcohol or spicy food.
FALSE: Usually the body digest and processes all the food a mother eats before the body makes the breast milk. An occasional glass of wine or beer would not hurt a nursing baby and the same goes for spicy foods. There is also no conclusive research to support the theory that mothers who consume gassy foods(such as beans and broccoli) will have a colicky baby.

MYTH 5 Breastfeeding is a great alternative for birth control.
FALSE: While in many instances ovulation is suppressed during breastfeeding, only abstinence will ensure that no little surprises happen. Nursing mothers can safely take low dose birth control pills or use barrier methods of contraception without harming their baby.

MYTH 6 A breastfeeding mother should space her feeding so that her breast will have time to refill.
FALSE: A lactating mothers body is constantly making milk. Her breasts function in part as "storage tank" some holding more than the others. The faster the breast emptied, the faster the body makes milk to replace it. Conversely, the fuller the breast, the more production of milk slows down. If a mother consistently waits until her breast are full before she nurses, her body may get the signal that it is making too much and may reduce overall production.

Baby Bath Basic

Bathing your baby can be such a nice experience, here are some basic tips to make it even more fun and comfortable for your baby.

1. Warm water is best for baby's first bath. If she still has the umbilical cord, make sure this area does not get wet. If you're hesitant, a sponge bath for baby would do. After the stump has fallen off, you can give her a full bath.

2. In your baby's bathtub, place a foam or rubber mat to avoid slipping. With your hand and arm, support your baby's head, neck and back. Ease her into the tub and sit down. Hold her at a 45 degree angle. The warm water should only reach up to her neck.

3. Liquid soap or body washes are best for baby. Make sure these items are mild and unscented because your baby's skin is still very sensitive to artificial additives. Have your baby's towel ready at your side so you can wrap her right after her bath.

4. Avoid getting soap and water into her eyes, mouth and ears. As you support her head, cover her ears with your thumb on one side and your index finger on the other. With a wet washcloth, clean the outer and back area of your baby's ears. If bath time comes after feeding time, gently wipe clean her tongue and the inside of her mouth.

5. After the bath, make sure your baby is dried and clothed immediately. Pat him dry with a soft towel; don't rub because his skin is quite fragile. Applying baby powder is usually considered as a post bath ritual, but do skip this instead because the tiny particles mights cause allergies to your little one.

Perks and Drawbacks Of An Only Child

Me and my wife as far as today have no plans to have another baby, maybe its because our salary cant compensate for having another child for now. Raising only-child toddlers is becoming the most viable and practical option for parents in many parts of the globe, here is a nice article about the pros and cons of raising an only child.

PERKS

1. All the love in the world. With no one else to shower parental love on, an only-child toddler benefits from this setup because he is pampered, with "more lap time" or more attention, states Dr. Oliver. Parents are able to focus on the child's needs. The child is then given the best of everything in terms of education, housing, health care, etc.

2. No rival. According to Dr. Dimantala, an only child "is also free from sibling rivalry and comparison." An only-child toddler is expected to grow up feeling loved and feeling special.

3. Me time. In this setup, these children may learn to be more secure with themselves. "An only child learns to depend on himself, enjoys being alone, and can readily entertain himself," says Dr. Dimantala.

4. Stress free. Dr. Oliver states that parents also enjoy the perks of this setup. "Balancing the child's needs with your needs plus your spouse's needs is much less stressful physically, emotionally, and mentally," she says. There are fewer demands to meet compared to the demands of a multiple-child setup, and this should help parents enjoy more moments with their child.

DRAWBACKS

1. Too much attention. There may come a time when the little one becomes a little too much. One disadvantages is that the child get's spoiled and bratty at times because she is used to getting all the attention. Dr. Dimantala mentions how parents tend to shower their kid with fancy things. "When they get onto that habit, the child will begin to expect those things to satisfy his needs."

2. First time parents. Dr. Oliver notes that another disadvantages is that an only child has parents who are still feeling their way through parenting. "First time parents do not have the experience of parenting a previous child. Skills and the art of parenting can only be honed through practice."

3. Lack of socialization. Aside from having no playmates to interact with, there are also no other older children to learn from. An only child will also prefer playing with adults more. According to Dr. Dimantala, there is a possibility that the child may turn out to be a poor sport, as he will always want to win: "Because the child only plays with his parents, he is not used to adjusting his play with others.
